SPEAK OUT YOUR MIND IN A PRINTED T-SHIRTS

Sometimes what you wear relate your thoughts to the larger world and leaving your t-shirt plain might not just be cool enough hence, an impression is needed. PRINTED T-SHIRTS speak more than a million words and teens world over, just love to express themselves through these garments. Whether directly printed from the factory or customized, color and designs and/or imagery are what set these T-shirts apart. To make a good design, contrast must be created else no distinctions will be made- lighter colors might not be good for blank T-shirts with lighter colors but might go with darker colored shirts.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN PRINTED T-SHIRTS

In the U.K, professional printers could charge between £1.25 – £6.00 while in the U.S, the cost of T-shirt printing could range from $1.55 – $5.69. However, if you wish to save some buck, you can do it yourself.

Try out the screen printing method:

The Things you need include: a blank t-shirt, computer, printer (inkjet would come in very hand), transparency, a brush, emulsion (500ml), screen printing ink, degreaser, small wooden stick, hair dryer, printing screen, squeegee and small bottle of sensitizer.

PROCEDURE:

After you must have printed out your design- which you might have designed yourself using a graphic software like Adobe Photoshop…) or gotten from a source- on the transparency. With your supplies already in place, the following steps should be taken:

  • Mix the degreaser with cold water and brush the mixture on to both sides of the printing screen and leave it to dry;
  • Mix the emulsion and sensitizer together vigorously. Apply the mixture on to the screen using a squeegee to ensure even spreading. This should then be left to dry for about 20 minutes in a dark room;
  • Now, prepare the stencil: position the transparency [carrying your design] on to the screen [with the part having the design directly on the screen]. Use a piece of glass to hold the transparency in place;
  • Burn your design by leaving the preparation under the intensity of a 250 – 500 watts lightbulb for about 15 minutes. Those should be done in a completely dark room;
  • Lightly rinse the screen with water for about 2 minutes. The screen would most likely fall off. After this, excess emulsion should be washed off;
  • Tape round the edges of screen with a waterproof tape;
  • Place your blank T-shirt on a flat platform- the shirt should be well stretched out to avoid transferring on a fold;
  • Using a squeegee, spread one tablespoon of printing ink- from bottom to top- on top of the screen;
  • Transfer the design onto your T-shirt by placing the stencil on it and then using the squeegee to spread the ink;
  • Apply some heat [probably by using a hairdryer] to cure the ink.

Now, your PRINTED T-SHIRT is ready just how you wanted it. But it must be said that there are yet other crude ways of making print on your blank t-shirt.
